Trailer Time: 'The Life of Guskou Budori' anime

Kenji Miyazawa only lived to the age of 37, but in that short time he wrote a number of Japan's most revered works, which continue to be adapted in various forms today, more than 70 years after his passing. The latest of those to head to the silver screen is The Life of Guskou Budori, the second anime re-telling of the classic story, this time directed by Gisaburo Sugii, who also helmed an adaptation of Miyazawa's Night on the Galactic Railroad.

Opening in Japan on July 7th, a new 48 second trailer has been released for the 1920s set fairy tale, which follows the titular Guskou as he must escape to build a new life after droughts and natural disasters destroy his home in the Tohoku forests.  Sugii has again decided to transform the principle characters into anthropomorphic cats, which I've never understood quite why he does it. Even though the trailer is in Japanese, the animation is gorgeous in any language....
