*UPDATE* 'The Wettest County' now officially titled 'Lawless'; What will Terrence Malick do?

*Update* Turns out, Terrence Malick gave The Wettest County producers his seal of approval to change the title to Lawless, even though he had a film with the same name. So I guess Malick's film is now untitled? [EW]  The original story is below...

This has been in the works for awhile now, but John Hillcoat's adaptation of The Wettest County in the World will now be titled Lawless. If that title sounds familiar, it's because Terrence Malick has been using it for one of his two films slated to shoot later this year. So either he's going to change it, or we're going to have a lot of confused folks.  Then again, Malick seems like the type who might stick to his guns on this.

The title change is being reflected on the film's press site and Facebook page, so we may see an official announcement made soon. The Prohibition era film features a script by Nick Cave, and stars Tom Hardy, Shia Labeouf, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Dane DeHaan, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska.  It's expected to hit theaters on August 31st 2012.
