Warner Brothers sets release dates for 'The Hangover part 3', '300: Battle of Artemisia', and bumps Pacific Rim to summer
Warner Brothers only makes big tentpole flicks. I've said that for years now and every summer season they back that statement up. The smaller movies are few and far between now, to the point where the studio is practically competing with itself for your movie dollars. With Man of Steel being the centerpiece of a powerful line-up for next year, they've set release dates for some of the other blockbuster films on the horizon.
Next year might be the toughest yet for Todd Phillips and The Hangover Part III. The presumed final film in the drunken franchise has been slated for a May 24th 2013 release, the same date Universal has pegged for Fast and the Furious 6. There's no way this will stand, but the game of chicken will play out for awhile before somebody jumps to another weekend. I'm guessing it'll be Vin Diesel's flick, mainly because it seems to be the more complicated production with significant moving parts.
Guillermo Del Toro's gigantic monster mash, Pacific Rim, has moved from its comfy May 10th date right into the thick of summer at July 12th 2013 where hopefully it'll destroy Adam Sandler's Grown Ups sequel.
And on August 2nd 2013 there will be another showdown as 300: Battle of Artemisia will open that weekend against the old fogeys of Red 2. That one is a little close to call. I don't think anyone was exactly screaming for a sequel to either film, but Red has the star power while 300 may have visual style and a youthful cast on its side. The Smurfs 2 is also set for that weekend, which probably will out gross both of them easily.
