Emily Blunt in talks to join Tom Cruise in 'All You Need is Kill'; may star in 'The Thin Man'

Honestly, I didn't think much of Emily Blunt at first, even as others were raving about her. It wasn't until the double whammy of Sunshine Cleaning and The Young Victoria that she began to take a place as one of my favorite actresses to watch on screen, comfortable whether she's opposite Jack Black in Gulliver's Travels or Matt Damon in The Adjustment Bureau. Warner Brothers has a thing for her, as well, as the studio has been trying to line her up for numerous projects over the last few months, starting with The Man From U.N.C.L.E.  Well they finally got her, as she's in talks to join Tom Cruise in an adaptation of All You Need is Kill.
Directed by Doug Liman(Swingers) and based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's classic light novel about a soldier in the midst of an alien war who finds himself caught in a time loop, experiencing his death repeatedly and becoming a better warrior along the way. She'll play a fellow soldier who fights alongside Cruise, in a roll that probably nobody would have expected for her.

Variety, who broke the news, also notes that Blunt is the top contender to star in The Thin Man remake opposite Johnny Depp. Last month she was just one of nearly a dozen ladies circling the role of Nora Charles, half of a crime solving pair of socialites. Kristen Wiig and Emma Stone are the other finalists, meaning Rob Marshall and Depp are aiming strictly for comedy here. Blunt would make a solid choice, however.

No release date has been set for All You Need is Kill, but we'll see Blunt in two comedies before then. First up is The Five Year Engagement, starring Jason Segel. And then the one I can't wait for others to see is Your Sister's Sister(review here), with Rosemarie DeWitt and Mark Duplass.
