Pixar updates their upcoming projects; Lee Unkrich to direct 'Dia de los Muertos' film

It's been a relatively weak year for animated films so far, but that promises to get better in the coming months. While Disney's Wreck-It-Ralph and the upcoming holiday-themed Rise of the Guardians look great, the year doesn't feel quite complete until we've had an offering from Pixar. They'll be giving us Brave, their Scottish fairy tale on June 22nd. Marking an evolution of sorts for the company as it features their first female lead and first female director(or it used to anyway), Brave shows that even the mighty Pixar can learn a few new tricks. The vaunted animation studio looks ready to try a slew of new things in the coming years, and at CinemaCon they updated us on what's in store all the way to 2015.

Last year at the D23 Expo we learned about two new projects. One was a film involving humans and dinosaurs living together. The other was from Pete Docter(Up), which would take us inside of a girl's mind. Well now we know the dinosaur project will be titled The Good Dinosaur, and will be co-directed by Bob Peterson(Finding Nemo) and Peter Sohn, and will look at how Earth would be different if the cataclysmic asteroid that changed all life on this planet had missed us completely and the dinosaurs never went extinct. This "heartfelt" film will be released on May 30th 2014.

The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind is apparently so awe inspiring and far reaching that no release date can hold it! Pete Docter's film has been bumped back from May 2014 down to June 19th 2015.The ambitious story is said to be taking us on a wild journey into extraordinary worlds: "from the darkest depths of the ocean to the top of the tepui mountains in South America; from the fictional metropolis of Monstropolis to a futuristic fantasy of outer space." The human imagination is a hell of a thing. I can't wait for this.

And how can we forget Toy Story 3 director, Lee Unkrich? His upcoming project is currently known as  The Untitled Pixar Movie about The Día de los Muertos, the Mexican holiday also known as the Day of the Dead. Generally celebrated the first couple days in November, it's basically a remembrance of family and friends who have passed on. Generally, people tend to dress up in flashy and rather creepy outfits for the celebration. Expect for the horror and spiritual elements of the holiday to get played up. There's no release date set for it yet, which leads me to assume it's still a long ways off, maybe even after Docter's film.
