Sure Shots: Tony Danza; Jason Segel; Toni Collette
* Back in 1994, Joseph Gordon-Levitt starred in Angels in the Outfield, about an orphan who can see literal angels helping his favorite team win baseball games. Tony Danza was also in it, and he was kinda the big face at the time. Eighteen years later and the roles are quite reversed, but their shared past is pretty cool to think about now that Danza will appear in Gordon-Levitt's untitled directorial debut. We still don't know much about it, except that Gordon-Levitt will play a modern day Don Juan who sets out to become less of a dick. Danza will play his sports obsessed father, joining Scarlett Johansson and the recently added Julianne Moore. [Variety]
* When Jason Segel revealed that he wouldn't be back for The Muppets sequel, we were all justifiably sad. But there seemed to be hope that he would pop in for a cameo, if only to hang with his little Muppet buddy, Walter. Unfortunately, our hopes have been dashed as Segel revealed to ThePlaylist that he won't be back at all, not even for a cameo appearance. He's decided to instead focus on other projects, and will be making a cameo in Judd Apatow's This is Forty, reprising the role he played in Knocked Up. As for The Muppets, director James Bobin confirmed that Walter will be back is "heavily involved in the story".
* Has it been a crazy week for Toni Collette or what? Between filming Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, joining Steve Carell in The Way, Way Back, and today's release of Jesus Henry Christ, she is absolutely everywhere. It's almost like she just lost a TV show and has a wide open schedule. Huh? Oh. Well she's not at all done, joining two upcoming indie projects. The first is Miss You Already, which has her pairing with Jennifer Aniston as two longtime best friends who help one another through the toughest times of their lives. Collette's character is dealing with the birth of her first child while the father is away on business, while Aniston will battle breast cancer. Paul Andrew Williams(The Cottage) is directing.
Next up is The Long Way Down, based on the Nick Hornby book about four strangers who coincidentally meet on New Year's Eve when they're all planning to commit suicide by jumping off the same rooftop. Adapted by Jack Thorne and directed by Pascal Chaumiell, Collette will play the helpless single mom of a disabled man. Pierce Brosnan is circling a role as a scandal plagued talk show host. [Variety]
