Carl Franklin to direct cop thriller, 'City of Night'
Carl Franklin is one of those directors that I feel has gotten the short end of the stick. He's probably best recognized for his collaborations with Denzel Washington, like the perfectly noirish Devil In A Blue Dress, and the Florida gumshoe caper, Out of Time. Since then it's been tough going getting other major films cooking, and has been dabbling in TV for awhile now. Fortunately, it looks as if he'll be making a return to feature films with the cop thriller, City of Night.
Penned by David Chisholm(The Wizard), the story sounds incredibly familiar so I hope there's more to it than what's in the description. It follows a rookie LAPD officer on the toughest unit in the force, who gets sucked into a web of betrayal and deceit by a destructive veteran cop. A start date has yet to be announced. Doesn't sound that much different than Training Day, does it? Would anyone be surprised if Denzel turns up in this somehow?
Franklin was last set to direct Dwayne Johnson in the crime thriller, Snitch, but was replaced by Ric Roman Waugh. Hmmm...maybe Johnson would be a better fit for the veteran role? It would certainly be a chance for him to show his evil side, which he really hasn't done since his days in the WWE.
