New trailer for the CG-animated 'Starship Troopers: Invasion'
We've seen a couple of trailers already for the CG-animated Starship Troopers: Invasion, a film which hopes to make you forget those awful sequels to Paul Verhoeven's sly 1997 film. In fact, this one pretends those movies don't even exist, and follows a team of roughnecks engaged in a war against the alien "bugs" seeking to destroy humanity. The film is directed by Shinji Aramaki(Appleseed), with Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien and writer Eric Neumeier on board to produce. Clearly, the franchise has been the most lucrative thing either has done, so why not continue to milk it?
It does look like a solid addition to the franchise, which was loosely based on Robert A. Heinlein's controversial 1959 war novel. The follow-up films were cheaply produced and veered into questionable territory, but this one seems to be playing it straight for the most part.
