Scoot McNairy and Ruth Negga cast in 'Twelve Years A Slave'
The meteoric rise for Scoot McNairy continues. After impressing many with a stand out performance in Gareth Edwards' low budget creature feature, Monsters, he jumped into much bigger stuff by landing a role in Ben Affleck's Argo. He's currently lighting up Cannes in Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly, and now he'll get to follow his co-star in that film, Brad Pitt, into another project.
McNairy and Ethopian/Irish actress Ruth Negga(The Samaritan) are the latest to join Michael Fassbender, Pitt, Chiwetel Ejiafor, Adepero Oduye, and Paul Dano in Twelve Years A Slave. He'll play the circus employee who comes up with the scheme that tricked freed slave Solomon Northrup into being kidnapped, where he was then forced back into servitude for twelve long years. Negga will play another runaway slave.
Steve McQueen(Shame) is behind the camera, and clearly this is a film that a lot of people have Academy Award aspirations for. Filming begins next month for a probable release next year. [Variety]
