Sure Shots: 'Order of the Seven'; Bobby Cannavale; Hailee Steinfeld

* Perhaps realizing that we can only stand but so many friggin' Snow White adaptations, Disney has pulled the plug on Order of the Seven, their version of the fairy tale which was set to star Saoirse Ronan. Sadly, this is one take on the story that sounded fairly interesting, with Ronan playing a British ex-Pat who ventures to Hong Kong where she befriends a group of ancient warriors. Michael Gracey was set to direct, but apparently he couldn't keep the costs under control. The official reason given for the cancellation is a budget that blew up to over $150M. [Deadline]

* Outstanding character actor, Bobby Cannavale(Win Win) has joined Woody Allen's upcoming film. He'll join Sally Hawkins, Cate Blanchett, Bradley Cooper, and Alec Baldwin when filming takes place later this year. As usual, we don't know jack about his role or much of anything about the untitled project, but you can bet Cannavale will be a scene stealer. He can be seen now on the Showtime series, Nurse Jackie, and will appear in the next season of Boardwalk Empire. [Deadline]

* Lemony Snicket author Daniel Handler is adapting another of his novels for the big screen. His most recent book, Why We Broke Up, is set to have Hailee Steinfeld in the lead, with Beth McCarthy-Miller directing. Steinfeld will play Min Green, a high schooler who recently broke up with Ed Slaterton after a whirlwind romance. The story takes place a couple of weeks after the separation, when she drops a box full of old mementos on his porch, each representing a reason why they broke up. After failing to follow-up on her True Grit success, Steinfeld has been keeping plenty busy. She'll next turn up in an adaptation of Ender's Game, and will then star in John Carney's Can A Song Save Your Life? McCarthy-Miller is attached to direct the Melissa McCarthy comedy, Tammy.
