Rumor Mill: Angelina Jolie to direct 'Fifty Shades of Grey'?

Finding it hard to avoid talk of Fifty Shades of Grey? The erotic novel inspired by friggin' Twilight fan-fiction has been giving unfulfilled housewives the steamin' panties for over a year, selling more than 10 million copies around the world. Since it's become so stupid popular, of course the film rights were snapped up with the quickness by Universal and Focus Features in a joint venture. You'd expect a project as high profile as this to attract some big name talent, but nobody could have expected that the first name out of the gate would be the biggest actress in the world.

The hot rumor floating around now is that Angelina Jolie has expressed interest in directing the film, and that some talks have taken place. The studio has flat out denied it, but these things don't crop up out of nowhere. It's possible discussions were had and went nowhere, so maybe it turns out to be nothing. If you don't know what all the fuss is over 50 Shades of Grey, it involves a virgin chick named Anastasia Steele, fresh out of college and interviewing with a manipulative billionaire named Christian Grey. She immediately gets hot for him, and agrees to become his sex submissive, allowing him complete domination over her life in every way, which he proceeds to use to bang the bejeezus out of her umpteen times throughout three books. The idea was cooked up by author E. L. James, and is basically the inverse of Twilight, but with all the same simplistic emotions.

That's really all we know right now. It'd be an interesting move for Jolie, especially considering how well-received her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, turned out to be. I'd hate to see her go from that powerful and important film to utter crap like this.
