Sure Shots: Catherine Keener; James Marsden; Jack Bender

* Need somebody to play an ex-wife in your movie? Better call Catherine Keener because she's got the market cornered. She'll join Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo in Can A Song Save Your Life?, the next film from director John Carney(Once) and produced by Judd Apatow. Knightley plays a woman who moves along with her boyfriend(Adam Levine) to New York City with hopes them starting a music career. When he leaves her for the greener pastures of a solo contract, she's pretty distraught until she hooks up with a hard-luck record producer, with love soon to follow. Keener will play the ex-wife to Ruffalo's character. [Deadline]

* We love James Marsden(Sugar & Spice) around these parts, and he's shown himself to be a pretty convincing comedic and dramatic talent when given the chance. But let's face it, he's not charismatic enough to be a leading man(as Straw Dogs proved), so his next gig is probably what we can expect to see from him for awhile. He'll join the cast of the action comedy, 2 Guns, which has Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington as two agents for differing departments, hiding their true identity from one another as they plot to steal mob money. Baltasar Kormakur directs, with Paula Patton, Edward James Olmos, and Bill Paxton co-starring. [Variety]

* Once set to direct Paramount's upcoming Jack Ryan flick with Chris Pine at the lead, Jack Bender(Lost) has signed on to helm a super secret project at Legendary Pictures. All we know right now is that it will be a thriller, titled Devolution, and was conceived by Max Brooks(World War Z) with the screenplay being written by David Leslie Johnson(Orphan). What's the big fuss? The only thing I can think of is that it must have some tie to another Legendary property. Any ideas?
