Long held in high esteem for his many imaginative children's books, William Joyce has found an equal measure of creative and critical success working on animated features. Beginning his film career as an art designer for Pixar's Toy Story, he's also shepherded the adaptations of some of his novels. Currently he has two on the way, with the fairy tale Rise of the Guardians due out this November. Next year sees him teaming up with 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios, the team behind Ice Age and Rio, for the animated action-adventure film, Epic.
The first trailer for Epic has been released, and it looks like a cross between Terra Nova and FernGully. Gorgeously animated, and featuring the voices of Beyonce, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, and Amanda Seyfried, the film is set in a magical forest land where a battle between forces of good and evil rages. When a young girl is mysterious transported into their hidden universe, she joins up with a colorful group of characters to try and save their world.
Directed by Ice Age's Chris Wedge, Epic is set to hit theaters on May 24th 2013. Check out the trailer below...
