The guys over at Broken Lizard are a spotty comedic bunch at best. I know there are many who adore Super Troopers and Beerfest, but to me they are the lowest of lowest common denominator films. That's not a bad thing in and of itself, but they have to be funny as well, and those movies don't get the job done. However, about 60% of Club Dread is brilliant stuff, and I'm not just talkin' the scenes with Brittany Daniel showing off her rack. Ok, maybe I am.
The Babymakers is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, and stars Paul Schneider(All the Real Girls) and fake geek queen Olivia Munn as a couple who desperately want to have kids. The problem is that he doesn't have enough ammunition, if you know what I mean, so he enlists his buds to rob a sperm bank where he left a load years earlier. With the help of a clueless Indian gangster(played by Chandrasekhar), everything that can go wrong does go wrong. It's a little disheartening to see the sexy and hilarious Aisha Tyler wasting away in a movie that appears to not have a single joke in it if the trailer is anything to go by.
I'm not quite sure what to make of Olivia Munn, either. Somebody in Hollywood really wants her to be successful, but even the few lines she delivers here are totally lifeless. Maybe the Broken Lizard faithful will turn up for this one, but since this isn't officially one of their films, that probably won't happen. The Babymakers hits theaters and Itunes on August 3rd....
