Trailer Time: 'Frankenweenie', directed by Tim Burton
We've talked about the recent struggles of Tim Burton a lot on this site as well as on the show, and to me it boils down to him being restrained by the creative limitations inherent in adapting other people's work. You could make a case that Dark Shadows wasn't really an adaptation but a reimagining of TV series few saw and only the most ardent care about, but it still wasn't something that sprung wholly from Burton's own fertile imagination. When was the last time that happened? 2005's Corpse Bride?
Frankenweenie marks a return to original filmmaking for Burton, as well as a return to stop-motion animation where he's found so much past success. Based on Burton's 1984 short film, Frankenweenie features a young Victor Frankenstein, whose favorite pet pooch dies in an accident. Rather than letting him go, he decides to use his scientific genius to bring the pup back to life in Frankenstein's monster-style. Charlie Tahan, Winona Ryder, Martin Landau, and Catherine O'Hara lend their voices to what looks like it may be one Burton film worth looking forward to.
Frankenweenie hits theaters on October 5th. Check out the latest trailer below....
