Trailer Time: 'Here Comes the Boom', starring Kevin James and Salma Hayek
Y'know, Kevin James can act. Seriously. We don't get much opportunity to see it, since practically every film he's in either stars talking animals or Adam Sandler, and neither provide much of a chance for him to show his dramatic chops. Unfortunately, he's not venturing far from Sandler for his next film, the Happy Madison-produced comedy, Here Comes the Boom.
Directed by Sandler veteran, Frank Coraci(The Waterboy), the film has James as a science teacher at an urban school facing serious budget cuts. In order to save some of the crucial programs, he takes up cage fighting in hopes of earning some cash. Why doesn't he just....I dunno...have a bake sale or something? Who the frig knows? And does it really matter? The film was shot in just over 20 days, but it looks like it was done over the course of months. James looks kinda tubby in the early footage, but he looks in pretty good shape by the end. Not good enough for anybody to believe he'd be able to land Salma Hayek, who co-stars as a fellow teacher, but James always somehow scores the hot chick in everything he does. Must be in his contract.
It doesn't look all bad, and it looks like there'll be some attempt to make a point about our failing school system, in between James getting thrown around the cage like a rag doll. Henry Winkler, Joe Rogan, Greg Germann, and Melissa Peterman co-star when Here Comes the Boom opens on October 12th....
