Trailer Time: 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower', starring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson

Following this weekend's release of a new poster and trailer clip, the full trailer for The Perks of Being a Wallflower debuted tonight during the MTV Movie Awards. It's a logical place to premier it, considering MTV published the book from which the film was based, and the audience is exactly who is being targeted. Sure, the show is terrible and features the same five movies nominated for everything, but MTV knows their fans and what they want to see.

Based on the book by Stephen Chbosky, who also wrote the script and makes his directorial debut, the film stars fresh faced stars, Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, and Ezra Miller. Lerman stars as Charlie, the titular wallflower dealing with the harshness of high school life in the wake of his best friend's suicide. He finds unlikely friends in step-siblings Charlie and Sam, who help him navigate tough issues like sexuality, loneliness, and drug use in 1991 Pittsburgh, PA.

The cast is fantastic, and when you throw in supporting players like Mae Whitman, Johnny Simmons, and Paul Rudd, it looks even better. It's a nice change of pace for Watson, who we finally get to see play a normal teenager for once, and not a genius with magical powers. It still remains to be seen just how much it'll follow the book's epistolary nature. We get a taste of it through some rather bland sounding narration, but otherwise this looks like solid stuff, and definitely has the feel of a 1990s teen drama. The Perks of Being a Wallflower opens on September 14th. Check out the trailer below....[MTV]
