You have to try pretty damn hard to make a Joseph Gordon-Levitt/Michael Shannon film seem unimportant, but that's exactly what has happened with Premium Rush. The film has been an afterthought for Columbia Pictures, despite the presence of the two popular actors who just so happen to be starring in some pretty big movies over the next year. You'd think they'd want to capitalize on that somehow, and when the studio bumped the film from its original January release date down to August 24th, that looked to be the case. And yet, there's been no buzz on the film at all.
A lot of that probably has to do with it looking like a throwaway project pieced together in an afternoon. David Koepp(Spider-Man) writes and directs this cheapie thriller, which has Gordon-Levitt as Wilee(really, that's his name), an adrenaline junkie and popular bike messenger whose latest package attracts some rather unsavory types. Shannon plays a corrupt cop who wants whatever it is he's delivering, and chases Wilee across town through, over, and under traffic in order to get it.
We saw an earlier, and much longer trailer for the film last year, and neither has made much of an impact. Gordon-Levitt obviously has The Dark Knight Rises coming up this summer, while Shannon will be General Zod in Man of Steel. So again, it's strange that Columbia Pictures can't find a way to hype Premium Rush even a little bit. Check out the trailer below...
