Vin Diesel unveils a new image from 'Riddick'!

Vin Diesel has been extremely open about sharing with his fans the progress on Riddick, the third film in his popular Chronicles of Riddick action franchise. After a consistent stream of photos and updates on his Facebook page, we haven't seen or heard much in about a month. While there's still no release date, Diesel did take some time to release a new photo, and also to show just how amped up he is now that the film is wrapped and in the editing room....

Diesel: "Haha... Last night I was invited in to the editing room, to see the first cut of the new Riddick... WOW!!! P.s. I was so affected/excited... I couldn't sleep. GRRRR!!!"

I've been surprised not only by how many fans the Riddick series has, but by how Diesel's enthusiasm every step of the way has made me pretty excited for it as well. The franchise started out with the low budget Pitch Black, which turned into a sleeper hit. The Chronicles of Riddick over-reached and barely broke even, but the series has become a cult favorite on DVD and in other forms of media such as video games and anime.

David Twohy will write and direct the film, which has Riddick left for dead on a desolate alien planet. Fighting for survival against the planet's native creatures, the likes of which he's never seen, he comes to realize there's only one way to escape. Activating an emergency beacon, a number of the universe's bounty hunters descend on the planet to bring Riddick in, with one group led by a captain with a personal stake in seeing him captured.  Vin Diesel stars alongside Karl Urban, Kate Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Bokeem Woodbine, Jordi Molla, Nolan Funk, and Matt Nable.
