Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis square off on 'The Campaign' poster

Sometimes, timing a political movie with the release of a major election can lead to better than expected box office results, along with an added awareness of a specific issue. Such was the case with Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11. Think it would have done as well if it came out a year later and not during the run up to the 2004 Presidential election? Probably not. Can the same strategy work for a political comedy, however? We'll find out soon enough when The Campaign opens on August 10th.

A new poster has been released for the film, which stars Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two rival politicians jockeying for votes in a small North Carolina congressional district. Ferrell plays the straight-laced incumbent, Cam Brady, who makes a serious gaffe just before the election, forcing a pair of wealthy CEOs to put up a challenger for his seat. Galifianakis plays his opponent, Marty Huggins, a simple and soft spoken buffoon who grows into the role of politician thanks to his benefactors.

Obviously, the film's greatest strength is giving us a chance to see the two comedic heavyweights squaring off, and the poster makes sure to highlight that aspect of it. Jay Roach(Game Change, Meet The Parents) directs, based on a script co-written by Adam McKay.  Brian Cox, Jason Sudeikis, Katherine LaNasa, Dan Akroyd, Dylan McDermott, and John Lithgow co-star.
