CBS Films to bring video game 'Deus Ex' to the big screen

Told you.Video games are the new comic books, and it's only a matter of time before someone does for game adaptations what others have done for superhero movies. The Resident Evil flicks can't remain the benchmark forever, can they? With Josh Trank prepping Shadow of the Colossus, and Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, and Need for Speed movies on the way, the future is looking pretty bright. Well now you can add one more game to the pile.

CBS Films has picked up the rights to Deus Ex, the cyberpunk themed video game series from Square Enix. The action RPG has been around for years, with all three games set in the future and dealing with how the world's elite use technology to manipulate society. The latest game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, will be the outline for the film, which follows  "an ex-SWAT security specialist who must learn to embrace the high-tech prostheses that replace much of his body in order to unravel a global conspiracy that involves an attack on a biotechnology firm tied to developing human enhancements." While it's the third in the game franchise, it's actually a prequel and lays much of the foundation for the future.

Obviously, the plan is to turn this into a big screen franchise as well, but we'll have to wait and see if CBS Films can pull a megastar to front the film, the way Michael Fassbender is doing with Assassin's Creed.
