Want to know something I hate with a passion? Going to an IMAX screening of any movie and listening to people complain when the size isn't up to their standards. IMAX is a name brand, not a screen size, and the sound and image quality of their smaller IMAX Digital theaters is superior to virtually any other. If you needed further proof that the folks at IMAX are cultivating a brand, they've started a nifty trend of releasing limited-edition, exclusive posters specific to their midnight screenings. We've seen a number of these this year, including the most recent one for The Amazing Spider-Man. So of course we're getting one for the biggest movie event of the year, The Dark Knight Rises.
There really is no other way to see a film like this, as Christopher Nolan has shot more than an hour of footage specifically designed for IMAX. The optimal way to see it will be in 70mm, the full IMAX Experience as it were. If you do plan on attending one of the many midnight screenings of the film on July 20th, these posters will be available at many of them.
As for the image itself, it presents Batman as more of an angelic protector than vigilante crime fighter. His iconic Bat-symbol emitting a shaft of golden light on the burning Gotham City, while Batman himself hovers in the sky overhead. Are they perhaps hinting again at Batman's ultimate demise? Will Batman give his life to save the city that he and his family have long fought for?

PLOT: It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.
But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.
