We don't get to see nearly enough of Tobey Maguire if you ask me. A fantastic actor who has found success with smaller movies such as The Good German, and obviously in blockbusters like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. Lately it seems like we're seeing less and less of him, so it was pretty exciting when he joined Baz Luhrmann's excellent cast for The Great Gatsby, and also was slated for a role in Ang Lee's Life of Pi. Well, now we've got an update on one of those flicks, and information on a new film Maguire is hopping aboard.
Deadline reports that Maguire has joined the cast of Labor Day, the latest film written/directed by Jason Reitman(Young Adult), and based on the Joyce Maynard novel. Kate Winslet stars as a mother who, along with her 13-year old son, Henry, learn valuable life lessons over the course of an extended Labor Day weekend after picking up an escaped convict. Josh Brolin will play the convict, with J.K. Simmons, Brooke Smith, Clark Gregg, Alexie Gilmore, and Micah Fowler co-starring. Maguire will play the adult version of Henry, and also the film's narrator. Production has been underway for awhile, so it's possible Maguire's role is small and already wrapped up.
Unfortunately, Maguire won't be a part of Ang Lee's adaptation of Yann Martel's book, Life of Pi. He had been set to play a fictional version of the author, but Lee has decided it best to keep the cast international, and this might come as a surprise, but Maguire isn't all that ethnic.
