Trailer Time: 'Why Stop Now', starring Jesse Eisenberg and Melissa Leo

Why Stop Now(aka Predisposed) is a dramatic comedy that was an official selection at Sundance, but emerged with mixed reviews. However, there are a number of reasons to think this might be a sleeper if given the right push when it arrives next month.

For one, the film stars Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg, and Academy Award winner Melissa Leo, not to mention it's co-written and directed by Academy Award nominee Ron Nyswaner(Philadelphia, The Painted Veil). Eisenberg stars as a piano prodigy who, in true farcical fashion, must check his mother(Leo) into drug rehab on the same day he's to audition for a prestigious music program. Tracy Morgan plays a clueless drug dealer named Sprinkles who gets caught up in the craziness of the day, and I'm happy to see Isaiah Whitlock Jr.(The Wire) getting another comedy notch on his belt after he was so good in Cedar Rapids.

The trailer has been released, and while it's a little uneven, Eisenberg looks to be in much finer neurotic shape than he was in To Rome With Love, and Leo looks to be in top form as well. Few can wear their desperation on their sleeve as well as she can. My only concern is that this looks like one of those movies where so much wackiness is heaped on that it may lose dramatic weight. We'll see when Why Stop Now opens on August 17th.
