1st look at Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi in 'Pacific Rim'

We're almost exactly a year away from Guillermo Del Toro's big sci-fi monster flick, Pacific Rim, and images are starting to trickle out. We saw the first shot of Idris Elba, wearing a really bulky suit, and now today we've got the Charlie Hunnam(Green Street Hooligans) and the awesome Rinko Kikuchi(The Brothers Bloom), in much the same gear. Looks like only the dudes get that massive codpiece, though.

Hunnam plays Raleigh Antrobus, a washed up ex-pilot, while Kikuchi is Mako Mori, an untested trainee. When gigantic monsters begin emerging from the sea, humanity bands together to fight for survival, creating a new type of weapon known as a "Jaeger", a robotic mech with two pilots whose minds are linked in a neural bridge. Antrobus and Kikuchi become two unlikely heroes when they are tasked with piloting a legendary, seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.

If there had never been a delay on The Hobbit, we'd be talking about Del Toro directing that film right now. Am I the only one who is happy he moved on? Pacific Rim already looks like a far more interesting and fun film. Charlie Day, Max Martini, Ron Perlman, Clifton Collins Jr., and Rob Kazinsky co-star. Pacific Rim hits theaters on July 12th 2013.
