All the hubbub surrounding Lindsay Lohan playing Hollywood queen Elizabeth Taylor seems to have died down, and other than getting into her umpteenth car accident, things have been relatively quiet on the paparazzi front. She's not only finished the Lifetime TV movie Liz & Dick, in which she plays the legendary actress, but Lohan also completed Paul Schrader's The Canyons with real-life porn star James Deen.
Now we're being treated to a handful of new pics of her in full Taylor-mode, and of course there's one of her on the set of Cleopatra, the making of which will play a major role in the film. Still the most expensive movie ever made when adjusted for inflation, Cleopatra served as the backdrop for a tabloid spectacle that included her public affair with eventual husband Richard Burton(played here by Grant Bowler), which led to all sorts of moral outrage and bad press that 20th Century Fox didn't want. The film turned out to be a critical darling but box office dud that nearly destroyed the studio.
When she's on her game, Lohan could take this challenging role and run away with it. She's the least of the film's worries, in my opinion. It's the typically unimpressive Bowler who has an uphill climb trying to match Burton's charisma that could lure someone like Taylor. Lifetime still hasn't set a date for Liz & Dick to premier, but at this point we probably won't see it until the tail end of the year.
