After flooring the audience at Comic-Con with some surprise footage from their Godzilla reboot, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures aren't wasting any time in letting us know when we can expect the epic movie monster to stomp its way into theaters. The studios have just announced that Godzilla will be one of the first blockbusters of the summer season when it opens on May 16th 2014. That sets up what could be an awesome reptile battle royale as it'll face off against Platinum Dunes' Ninja Turtles film that weekend.
Gareth Edwards(Monsters) will direct, with a crowded backfield of writers including David Goyer(The Dark Knight trilogy), Max Borenstein, and David Callaham. Although the competition may seem light on May 16th, it's still a pretty tough month overall. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel is expected to hit just a couple of weeks before, followed up on May 23rd by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Pixar's A Good Dinosaur the week after
