Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson to star in rock music comedy, 'Frank'

We've seen Michael Fassbender do a lot of things, and he's excelled at them all. Whether he was playing a manipulative android in Prometheus, the mutant master of magnetism in X-men: First Class, or Edward Rochester in Jane Eyre, there's very little that he can't do. What we've never really had the chance to see him do is play a straight-up comedic role, but that's about to change.

Fassbender will join Domhnall Gleeson(Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) in Frank, a comedy rock music biopic about Brit musician and comedian Chris Sievey. Sievey would form the group, The Freshies, and later take on the persona of the cartoonish Frank Sidebottom, notable for his gigantic cartoon head. Fassbender will take on the title role, with the plot largely revolving around Gleeson's character, an aspiring musician who gets more than he bargained for after joining Frank's band.

The film is directed by Lenny Abrahamson, with a script from Peter Straughan and Sievey's friend, journalist Jon Ronson(The Men who Stare at Goats). No word on when this will start filming, but it may be awhile considering Fassbender's extensive slate. Gleeson can be seen later this month in Dredd 3D. [Variety]
