Just because the summer season is behind us that doesn't mean all the sizzle is gone for the rest of the year. Quite the contrary, as the fall season brings with it a number of high profile festival darlings and the occasional chop-socky kung fu flick that will be jockeying for a little awards love. We've got some new looks at a bunch of them, so let's just get right to it....
First up are a couple of new images from
Flight, starring Denzel Washington as a pilot deemed a hero after heroically saving his passengers, only to be revealed as a hard-drinkin' drug fiend. Basically he's like Sully Sullenberger if he turned heel. Don Cheadle, James Badge Dale, Kelly Reilly, and Brian Geraghty co-star in what will be the first live-action film from Robert Zemeckis since
Cast Away.
Flight opens on November 2nd.
Ok, so this image from
Trouble with the Curve might not be all that exciting....until you look over there in the corner and see....Invisible Obama!!!! If only I had seen the baseball drama after Eastwood's RNC antics it would have made for a much more enjoyable experience. Oh well. Clint steps in front of the camera as an aging baseball scout who goes on one last road trip with his daughter(Amy Adams) to check out a "can't miss" prospect, while Timberlake is an ex-pitcher breaking into the scouting game. The film is directed by Eastwood's buddy, Robert Larenz, making his debut behind the camera.
Trouble with the Curve opens on September 21st.
The undisputed horror champion is back this Halloween with
Paranormal Activity 4, and....well, that's pretty much all we know about it. For whatever reason, the plot is being kept under heavier guard than your average Terrence Malick flick, which is odd to me because we know what the heck is going to happen. Demon spirit invades home of camera-obsessed suburban family. If the previous two films are any example we can expect half-hearted gestures towards continuity, and those with a tendency for motion sickness may want to stay home. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman(
Catfish) are back to direct, and if this image is any indication the Internet may be a factor. Internet and spooky voyeur demon children.
Paranormal Activity opens on October 19th.
MTV has dropped this new photo from Tom Hooper's adaptation of Broadway hit,
Les Miserable. Since I'm not exactly a Les Mis aficianado, it's hard for me to put this scene into context, so either Jean Valjean(Hugh Jackman) is roughing up a distraught Fantine(Anne Hathaway), or he's trying to soothe the poor factory worker. Between this and the harmonizing dwarfs of
The Hobbit coming out on the same day, expect to hear a lot of singing come December 14th.
Juan Antonio Bayona may have a sleeper hit on his hands with
The Impossible, a disaster drama starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor as parents in a family struggling to survive the 2004 Thailand tsunami. These images really capture just how harrowing the film shoot must have been for the cast and crew, especially that shot of Watts and McGregor hanging on for dear life while the raging waters crash them about.
The Impossible sweeps into theaters on October 11th.
This latest shot from Rian Johnson's
Looper is taken
from the clip we saw just a couple of days ago, in which Bruce Willis gets the jump on his younger self and beats the snot out of him in a crowded restaurant. Hell of a way to start your morning. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a "looper" in the present, a hitman who kills targets sent to him from the future.
Looper opens on September 28th.
Wu-Tang Clan founder the RZA prepares to slice 'n dice his foes in
The Man with the Iron Fists, his directorial debut and homage to high-wire kung fu classics. Fittingly presented by Quentin Tarantino and feature a script co-written by Eli Roth(
Hostel), the film features a badass gunslingin' performance by Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung, Dave Bautista, Pam Grier, and more.
The Man with the Iron Fists slashes its way into theaters on November 2nd.
This is probably the most laid back image from the most laid back scene from the long-delayed
Red Dawn remake. In a rare moment where they aren't screaming and giving away their position from the invading North Koreans, this shot shows Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Connor Cruise, and what looks like Josh Peck on a scouting mission. Bullets, explosions, and lots of flag waving are soon to follow.
Red Dawn bursts into theaters on November 21st.
