Because your grandma demanded it: 'The Best Exotic Marigold' sequel on the way

Hollywood learned a pretty big lesson this year, right in the thick of their blockbuster movie season. And that lesson was that old people love movies, too. We've seen a ton of films coming up that are geared specially for the senior set, and they all can thank the folks behind The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for it. The comedy, which featured a great cast of Brit thesps such as Bill Nighy, Judi Dench, and Tom Wilkinson, killed it at the box office to the tune of over $130M. You know what that means, don't you? SEQUEL!!!!

That's right, a sequel to the India-set film is in the works, cooked up by original screenwriter Ol Parker who will drop off the script to Fox Searchlight in the coming weeks. Apparently the cast "all wants to come back" for more, which shouldn't be much of a surprise. The film only cost a miniscule $10M, and you can bet the key players will be demanding a little extra something in their paycheck this time around.

I liked 'Marigold Hotel' well enough, but it wasn't something to necessarily write home about. Then again, they weren't really looking to impress guys like me, anyway. So while it wasn't exactly a film that screamed for a follow-up, it's good to see a different audience being catered to for once.   [Vulture]
