Christian Bale sought for Wally Pfister's 'Transcendence'

Considering Wally Pfister has spent the bulk of his career making actors look their absolute best on screen as Christopher Nolan's long time cinematographer, it's no wonder that his directorial debut is attracting a lot of attention. A few days ago we learned that Johnny Depp was the first to come aboard Transcendence, Pfister's science-fiction film which Nolan and Emma Thomas are producing. But it looks like Pfister may be taking advantage of a familiar and highly successful recent relationship for another of the lead roles.

The LA Times says that Christian Bale is on the director's list to take on one of three lead characters in the film, which will begin shooting in Los Angeles next winter. While Pfister has stolen a page from the Nolan handbook and tried to keep things secret, we also know he's been targeting James McAvoy, Tobey Maguire, Noomi Rapace, and Christoph Waltz. Bale and Pfister obviously know one another pretty well thanks to The Dark Knight trilogy, but the actor's schedule is packed to the gills right now. He's got David O. Russell's next film formerly known as American Bullshit, and is also set for Todd Field's The Creed of Violence both set for 2013.

So right now any or none of these folks could end up in the film when cameras start rolling. What's clear is that Pfister is shooting for the stars on this one. Depp and Bale in the same film? Pretty awesome. Expect more news soon.
