Hailee Steinfeld, Olivia Wilde, and Nicole Beharie to lead Civil War drama 'The Keeping Room'
With no less than nine feature films credited to her over the last two years alone, and at least four more in 2013, Olivia Wilde is undoubtedly the busiest actress in Hollywood. None of her performances have been particularly memorable, though, and she certainly has yet to have that one definining leading turn. With the American Film Market in full swing, Wilde sees herself attached to a project that sets her opposite two other rising stars in a historical drama from a promising director.
Wilde will star alongside Hailee Steinfeld(True Grit) and Nicole Beharie(Shame) in The Keeping Room, a Civil War-era film from Harry Brown director Daniel Barber. Based on a script by Julia Hart, the film follows two Southern sisters and a slave who in the dying days of the war are forced to defend their home from a contingent of soldiers broken off from the invading Union Army.
All three women are red hot right now, so getting them together for a film such as this is one heck of a coup and should make for an easy sell at AFM. My only real concern is Barber, who did a solid job with Harry Brown but didn't exactly show the most subtle or nuanced hand behind the camera. This sounds pretty good, though, but it will depend on whether it uses the time period to full advantage and doesn't jump into generic home-invasion territory.[TheWrap]
