Matt Reeves will direct 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'
Told you there was no such thing a coincidence in Hollywood. When Matt Reeves(Let Me In) suddenly dropped out of directing The Twilight Zone on the same day his name was revealed as a final contender to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the writing was on the wall. And now we've got ourselves a confirmation.
Deadline reports that Reeves has won the job, taking over for Rupert Wyatt who we first heard may be leaving last month. It didn't sound all that concrete until the shortlist of replacements became public, and obviously Fox isn't willing to wait around to see what happens. Reeves made his first big splash with Cloverfield, so he knows a thing or two about big splashy films. He's never handled a franchise tentpole like this, though, and I'm curious to see what he can do. Let Me In proved he's got a real sense of mood and character which should come in handy.
Andy Serkis will be back reprising his role as chief chimp Caesar, with original scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver writing the script. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will swing into theaters on May 23rd 2014.
