Ryan Reynolds and Jon Favreau join forces to 'Battle for Bonneville'

This year has seen Ryan Reynolds and Jon Favreau trying to put a disastrous 2011 behind them. After a series of high profile flops, Reynolds bounced back with Safe House, which was a big enough hit to warrant a developing sequel. Favreau lost the Iron Man 3 directing gig(although he'll still appear as Happy Hogan), and saw Cowboys & Aliens land with a thud. But he's coming back having been signed to direct an adaptation of the Broadway hit, Jersey Boys.

Now the two are pairing up on a very different project for both of them. Favreau is set to direct Reynolds in Battle for Bonneville, which tells the story of half-brothers Art and Walt Arfons, who began as partners but ultimately became competitors in trying to break the world landspeed record. The script comes from Dan Gilroy, who just co-wrote The Bourne Legacy with his brother, Tony.

This one's still pretty early on as New Regency just secured the rights to the story, so we'll see how this shapes up over the next few months. Both Reynolds and Favreau are plenty busy, so things may change. [Deadline]
