The buzz surrounding RZA's directorial debut The Man with the Iron Fists must be pretty good, because the Wu Tang Clan founder has had no trouble amassing projects to follow-up with. A few weeks ago we learned he'd be teaming with comic book scribe Grant Morrisson on an adaptation of his series, Happy! And now RZA has signed on for two more projects that should keep him busy for awhile.
The first is John Milius' long-gestating Genghis Khan, obviously centered on the Mongol warlord who conquered much of Asia and Eastern Europe in the 13th century. The story will be told from the perspective of Khan's son and grandson. Milius, who is probably best known for directing Red Dawn and Conan the Barbarian, will exec-produce and was originally set to direct based on his own script.
The second one is an action flick titled No Man's Land(such a generic title now), which is being described as in the vein of The Warriors, and follows a man who steals a diamond from a powerful crimelord that proves more valuable than expected. Over the course of a single night, the man attempts to stay alive and cash in the diamond with the help of a dancer. The script comes from Trey Ellis and David Klass, and is produced by Reginald Hudlin, who forged a partnership with RZA last summer.
No Man's Land is likely to be RZA's next film, and it seems like a smart way to gain a bit more experience before tackling an ambitious biopic and a tonally awkward adaptation like Happy!
