Slick new poster for 'The Wolverine'; plus minor story details revealed

I had intended on tuning in to tonight's live chat with James Mangold and Hugh Jackman as they took questions about The Wolverine, but Hurricane Sandy struck and we're just now regaining power. But I've managed to peep out a few snippets, and for the most part the info isn't all that revelatory. With all the stuff we've heard recently about X-men making cameos, and the film not being a prequel like many expected, I was hoping we'd be hear more about that than what we actually got.

What they did tell us is that Wolverine is going to be pushed to limits previously unseen, and while that may sound pretty generic, Hugh Jackman insists that we're going to see Wolverine's "immortal nature" taken to the brink. They keep saying he's immortal, but he's not. In any case, they say Wolverine's enemies may have just found his kryptonite, and that has me thinking of that recent image we saw of the feral mutant without his adamantium claws. It may have been from a flashback image, or it could be that Lord Shingen and Clan Yashida have figured out a way to strip Wolverine of his vaunted metal bones. In the comics this only served to ramp up his healing factor, effectively making him immortal, but Mangold and Co. may have a different idea.

Other bits that surfaced are the possibility of Wolverine facing some new mutant adversaries, and a new rumor that the film will release in 3D. Also, a new teaser poster has dropped which I think is pretty hot, and looks like a penciled cover to one of his comics. Very nice. Here's hoping the rest of the marketing sticks to this formula.

The Wolverine opens next year on July 26th.
