Chris Hemsworth won't star in 'American Assassin'

Time waits for no man, right? And last I heard we still hadn't quite perfected that clone technology yet, so Chris Hemsworth simply can't be in all places at once. With a schedule that includes Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse, Thor: The Dark World, a developing Snow White and the Huntsman sequel, not to mention various Avengers-related appearances, something had to give. Unfortunately that means Hemsworth won't be starring in American Assassin, despite a hefty deal reportedly worth $10M.

It was almost exactly a month ago we learned of the offer, which would have had Hemsworth starring as Mitch Rapp, the CIA agent/terrorist hunter at the heart of Vince Flynn's series of popular novels. Jeffrey Nachmanoff is slated to direct, and Bruce Willis was circling a role as well, although we haven't heard much about that since. He may be out of the picture as well.

CBS Films may be starting over from scratch now. In the meantime, we'll see Hemsworth go hardcore military in the Red Dawn remake which opens in November 21st. [Deadline]
