Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender to play literary giants in 'Genius'

Forgot about Genius, did you? It can be forgiven, because we've heard very little about it for awhile now, despite the film boasting a script by John Logan(Skyfall) and at one point having both Sean Penn and Michael Fassbender attached to play a pair of real-life literary icons. But over the last year there have been some changes, as Penn is out and Colin Firth has stepped in.

Penn to Firth is what I like to refer to as a "lateral move", so the project still sounds pretty darn good. Genius is based on A. Scott Berg's National Book Award-winning biography Max Perkins: Editor of Genius, and follows the relationship between writer Thomas Wolfe(Fassbender) and editor Max Perkins(Firth). Wolfe was an incredible writer, and Perkins was a superstar in his own right, having discovered both F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. Wolfe and Perkins fought all the time over the author's style, which led to a falling out that lasted for years.

Michael Grandage will make his directorial, with filming set to begin early in 2014.
