Karl Urban and Willow Shields to star in 3D fantasy film 'The Wonder'
There are few who have found quite the franchise success as Karl Urban, even if he doesn't really have a tentpole to call his own just yet. Already in his relatively short career he's been a part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, JJ Abrams' Star Trek, Red, Dredd, The Bourne Supremacy, and he'll reprise his role as Vaako in Riddick next year. While he's already busy enough, Urban has set himself to star in yet another film with possible franchise potential.
THR reports Urban has signed up for The Wonder, a 3D fantasy film from director Ron Underwood(Mighty Joe Young). He'll be joined by The Hunger Games' Willow Shields and Chinese actor Leehom Wang(Lust, Caution) in a story that follows three young kids who are magically transported to China after finding the end of a rainbow. Once there they are pursued by a mysterious organization, eluding capture with the help of Consul William Stanley(Urban). Somehow a global catastrophe is triggered and the kids must race against time to stop it.
The film is being shopped at AFM right now, and more actors are expected to be added soon.
