Kellan Lutz to play a tattooed assassin in 'Tatua'
Now that Twilight has finally(maybe?) run its course, the stars of the vampire hit have mostly scattered and tried to get as far away from it as possible. But for those on the lower end of the totem pole, like Kellan Lutz, franchise opportunities have continued to arrive. Lutz already has his rather terrible looking CGI Tarzan flick opposite Spencer Locke, and now he's claiming a potential franchise all his own with the indie action flick, Tatua.
An original concept from comic book scribe Paul Jenkins and Rob Prior, the film has a rather unique premise. Lutz will star as an assassin with a rare blood type that allows him to be tattooed with a powerful ink, which he can then pull directly off his skin in the form of lethal weapons. The weapons are made from a combination of ink, blood, and adrenaline, so they take a heavy toll on his body and must be used quickly. All of this becomes an afterthought when his son is kidnapped by one of his most violent targets.
Paul Layden wrote the script, and visual effects wiz Aaron Sims will make his feature film directorial debut. He came to fame with the hit viral short film, Archetype. Lutz hasn't shown much as an actor yet, but he's a powerful physical presence and should make for a believable action hero. It'll be interesting to see if he fares better at it than Taylor Lautner did. Filming on Tatua is set for next March in Toronto. [Deadline]
