Ok, I'm sold. For weeks I've been holding out hope that Safety Not Guaranteed's Colin Trevorrow would be taking on Star Wars: Episode 7. It seemed like a smart choice, and he certainly made statements that seemed to indicate he would be a part of it. But last week he took a boot to all of those rumors by saying he was out of the running for the job. I didn't totally believe him then, but Trevorrow has come out yet again and reiterated his position to THR, and now I'm convinced he won't be the guy. Not yet, anyway.
While attending the Gotham Awards, Trevorrow had this to say....
Trevorrow: "It’s not going to be me for Episode VII, and I can’t believe I’ve actually had to come out and say that. That was the most shocking thing, like around the dinner table when I was eight, I had to assure everyone that it wasn’t me, but now actually for real. But there are a lot of things that have come up that are a lot of exciting opportunities that have come up because of this."
Episodes 8 and 9 are still on the table, right? He didn't say anything about those. We already know LucasFilm and Disney have lined up Michael Arndt, Simon Kinsberg, and Lawrence Kasdan to start script work on the entire trilogy, so it stands to reason they'd already be looking at future directors. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part?
He does go on to talk vaguely about all of the opportunities that have arisen of late, one of which must be this mystery project that could send fans into an uproar if he screws it up. Still sounds like Star Wars to me, but we'll see.
