Kevin Feige says 'Iron Man 3' is "not a serious movie"
Marvel have been trying to have it both ways a little bit when it comes to Iron Man 3. The footage we saw at Comic-Con was fairly upbeat stuff, with Tony Stark comically trying to summon his new armor and mostly failing. But the full trailer we saw recently was much darker, and I thought hinted at a much more dangerous world changed by the events in The Avengers. While that does sound cool, Iron Man has always been a fun movie first, and fortunately it sounds like that's still the plan.
Marvel Prez Kevin Feige spoke to The West Australian and said that folks shouldn't be worried the film will be too gloomy....
Feige: "It's not a serious movie, but we seriously dig into exploring more of Tony. The trick is just trying to make great movies. We try to make them all great, all different and all fresh. What you'll see in Iron Man 3 is some very unique directions that were taken."
See if you can guess what word has been given the Marvel-approved stamp of approval for all Iron Man 3 talking points as director Shane Black chimes in....
Black: “We’re not aiming for bigger, necessarily. We’re aiming for different and fresh and new. It’s all about capturing that lightning-in-a-bottle feel, about trying to get as much into this as we can. We’re looking to get a ton of thrills into a short space, to make a nice little stew for you.”
When Black first came aboard it was supposed to do something akin to a Tom Clancy thriller, and that idea really appealed to me. It would certainly be "fresh" and "new" compared to what we've seen so far. Black is a very different sort of filmmaker than Jon Favreau was, so I'd much rather see him do what he's good at rather than just more of the same.
Iron Man 3 opens on May 3rd 2013.
