Australian director P.J. Hogan and Aussie actress Toni Collette pretty much came up in the ranks together. He got his biggest break by bursting onto the scene with Muriel's Wedding back in 1994, which also happens to the be the film that thrust Collette into the spotlight. Both have moved on to bigger and better things ever since, but now they're back together again for the crazy family comedy, Mental.
As the film just made it's international debut(it's been available in Australia for awhile) at the Rome Film Festival, a new trailer has been released. Collette stars as Shazz, a charismatic but rough around the edges hitchhiker hired by a father to take care of his five daughter, who all think they suffer from some different mental illness. Why do they think something as weird as that? As you'll see in the trailer, their mother is a little off her rocker, and appears to have slipped into her own version of The Sound of Music. Anthony LaPaglia, Liev Schreiber, Rebecca Gibney, and Kerry Fox lead the talented ensemble.
No release date for Mental yet, but if it performs well we may see it stateside next year....
