Please, don't fret for Stephenie Meyer. She doesn't need your pity. The Twilight author may be dealing with this week's wrap-up of her beloved franchise when Breaking Dawn pt. 2 opens in a couple of days, but she's got another lovelorn supernatural romance right around the corner with The Host.
A new trailer for the Andrew Niccol written and directed film has been released, and Twilight fans you've got nothing to worry about. Seriously. It seems to be following every familiar story beat while also boasting the same lack of attention to visual effects. The clunky story takes place in a world where parasitic aliens known as "Souls" have invaded Earth for seemingly benevolent purposes. Saorise Ronan plays Melanie Strider, who has been infected by one of these beings known as Wanderer, but due to her powerful human emotions can't be fully possessed. What follows is a weird sort of love rectangle where Melanie and Wanderer fall in love with two different guys(Max Irons, Jake Abel).
Will Twilight fans see The Host as a worthy successor? Or will Beautiful Creatures have sucked the market dry by that point? Only time will tell, but this looks pretty terrible. The Host opens next year on March 29th....
