You might recall a few months ago Patrick Stewart revealing, rather tongue-in-cheekly, that he'd be reprising his role as Professor Charles Xavier. He wouldn't say in what film, but with rumors already kicking around that the X-Men universe was about to get a whole lot more connected, The Wolverine and the X-Men: First Class sequel were the obvious choices.
Bryan Singer, who only recently came back aboard as director, took to Twitter to reveal Stewart would be in X-Men: Days of Future Past, joined by a returning Ian McKellen as Magneto. Excited yet? This is a pretty big deal, and considering the storyline deals heavily in time travel, taking place in the present and a future where mutants are hunted, we could be looking at a possible lead-in to an X-Men: The Last Stand sequel. They'll be joining James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence. This also makes me wonder if Rebecca Romijin will come back as the older version of Mystique?
I think this also lends some credence to prior rumors of Famke Janssen making a cameo in The Wolverine as Jean Grey. We'll find out what's really going on soon enough. X-Men: Days of Future Past opens on July 18th 2014. [THR]
