Zombies need love, too. The first trailer for 'Warm Bodies' with Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer
So how sick of you of zombies at this point? Have we hit the tipping point where all of the movies and TV shows have made the undead passe? Well, Jonathan Levine's Warm Bodies intends to change all of that by presenting a zombie tale that's more love story than brain-eating horror.
At one time expected to open last summer, the film was unexpectedly bumped to next year, and maybe this newly released trailer can tell us why. Nicholas Hoult plays R, a zombie who isn't quite like other zombies. He has a best friend(Rob Corddry), for one thing, and he seems to be keenly aware of his surroundings and isn't just some mumbling eating machine. He even has some measure of guilt for all of the people he's forced to kill. But when he meets Julie(Teresa Palmer), it literally warms his dead heart, and he falls in love with her. Turns out that love can maybe fix that whole being undead problem.
We could be looking at an uneven, tonal disaster if this footage is any indication. Usually that plays into Levine's strength, having directed the drug comedy The Wackness and last year's 50/50. The aim seems to be that Zombieland meets Romeo & Juliet sweet spot, and if Levine can pull it off Warm Bodies could be a welcome surprise. Otherwise.....not so much.
Co-starring John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, and Dave Franco, Warm Bodies arrives in time for Valentine's Day on February 1st....
