"He was dead inside until he met her". While that may sound like the corny tagline for just another formulaic romantic comedy, those words have never been more accurate than in Jonathan Levine's rather unusual comedy, Warm Bodies. Think Romeo & Juliet with zombies and a post-apocalyptic setting, the film follows a member of the undead who calls himself 'R'(Nicholas Hoult), and falls in love with Julie(Teresa Palmer) the girlfriend of a guy he just made a meal out of.
A set of five new posters have been released which give a pretty good example of the type of humor you'll find on display. Having only recently seen the film, I can say that Levine has again found just the right approach to blending genres that simply shouldn't work on paper. He's done it throughout his career, with films like 50/50 and The Wackness, but Warm Bodies may have been the most impressive display of his talents yet. The tone and even some of the jokes reminded me a lot of Seeking a Friend for the End of the world, another film which attempts to find humor under awful circumstances.
Warm Bodies opens on February 1st, just in time for Valentine's Day.
