Has the 'Justice League' villain been revealed?

If you're Warner Bros. and you're trying to get your own superhero universe off the ground, the smart way to go about it would be to emulate what Marvel has done. Recent reports have hinted at this being the case, with Man of Steel potentially tying in to a Justice League film. But now a new rumor has surfaced that says they may be following The Avengers model a little more directly, at least in terms of who the heroes will be squaring off against.

The Avengers were forced to come together due to a planetary threat, and with the Mad Titan Thanos as the baddie for the sequel, the team will be forced to grow even further. According to Latino Review, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will be squaring off against the evil god, Darkseid, the most powerful villain in the entire DC universe, certainly too strong for any hero to handle alone. I've always looked at Darkseid and Thanos as cross-company cousins, as both are all-powerful divine beings with plans to destroy all known life. In Darkseid's case, he wants to destroy it and then bring it back in his own image.

The site doesn't give squat in terms of specifics, so as usual I take this with a heaping helping of salt. But assuming it's true, then this would be about as far away from Christopher Nolan's movies as they could get. I'm not saying that rules out Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Batman, but it seems less likely. It also doesn't sound like the type of story best suited to writer Will Beall(Gangster Squad).

I'm inclined not to read too much into anything until a director has been chosen. Both Justice League and The Avengers 2 are planned for 2015, and right now it's like they're both reading from the same playbook.
