HBO will 'Double Down' on a 'Game Change' sequel

Say what you want about Game Change, the book by political journalists Mark Halperin and John Heileman, but it's become the official storyline of the 2008 Presidential campaign. Certainly controversial in the way it depicted both the Democratic and Republican tickets, it was mostly notable for the insight it gave into then Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, who was mostly an unknown commodity. The narrative they established led to an acclaimed, Emmy-winning film by HBO, with an amazing central performance by Julianne Moore, and now the cable network is looking to follow-up on that success.

Halperin and Heileman are hard at work on a new book, Double Down, which will detail the 2012 Presidential campaign in which Barack Obama won in a landslide over defeated Mitt Romney. HBO has already optioned the rights, and it wouldn't be surprising if they brought back Jay Roach and Danny Strong to work on the adaptation. They seem to be the network's go-to guys for political dramas, working on both Game Change and Recount.

Honestly, I found the Romney and Obama campaigns a little boring this year, so it'll be interesting to see what approach is taken. The major strife mostly occurred on the outside, as those in the right wing media world seemed utterly clueless about Romney's real chances of victory. There were political opportunists around every corner who used the campaign to pump up their bank accounts while doing Romney a disservice. Advisors failed to properly capitalize on Romney's debate victory, while also feeding him awful suggestions like...well, the entire Republican National Convention down in Tampa. Ok, so maybe there's juicier stuff here than I thought. I also think there's some good material to be found in learning what was going on in Obama's inner circle as the poll numbers fluctuated around the country. Outwardly, they were all extremely confident, but was that how things really were?

So now the question is: Who will play Mitt Romney? My suggestion? This guy....
