James McAvoy and Mark Strong square off in trailer for 'Welcome to the Punch'
There's been a lot of talk about Welcome to the Punch, a Brit crime thriller from promising director, Eran Creevy. Creevy turned a lot of heads in '09 with Shifty, a small budget drama with a solid lead turn by Riz Ahmed, and that potential the director showed has a lot of people thinking he could be one of Hollywood's next breakout filmmakers from across the pond.
Looking a lot more sleek and less gritty than your typical U.K. crime flick, the new trailer for Welcome to the Punch introduces us to the impressive A-list cast, headed up by James McAvoy and Mark Strong. McAvoy plays Max Lewinsky, a hard-nosed London cop with a personal grudge against Jacob Sternwood(Strong), a crook with a knack for staying hidden. Jacob is forced out of the shadows when his son is shot, giving Max one more chance to bring his nemesis to justice. The action is solidly intense, but there isn't much else here to get excited over other than the talent involved. To me it smacks of a Heat knock-off, and we've seen far too many of those over the years.
Co-starring Andrea Riseborough, Jason Fyming, Elyes Gabel, David Morrissey, Daniel Mays, Peter Mullen, and Johnny Harrris, Welcome to the Punch opens in the U.K. on March 5th....[The Sun]
